A few weeks ago on the news, I heard of a cyclist who swerved out of the bike lane to avoid slamming into a car door and was instead hit by a semi-truck as soon as he left the lane. I don’t think he survived. The incident has made me very wary of the cars I ride next to and I’m always using hand signals because I don’t want anything happening to me while on my bike.
